Default Hang on back vs. sponge filters?

What do you folks use on your tanks, what do you prefer?

Have any of you switched from one to the other, if so what are your reasons?

Some may consider it overkill but I use both on all of my tanks. I will usually keep an extra sponge or two running in case a project comes up where I need instant biological filtration.

I agree with Ryan. I run both along with extra sponges just in case I have a surprise like this.

Excuse me for cutting in...Carol, do you use the same for your cichlids?

For the discus I am using both AC and sponge.
