    Default internal sponge?

What exactly is an internal sponge? The ones placed inside a filter. I have an idea but cannot seem to find them by that specific name online. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to since technically a sponge filter and a filter insert are both internal sponges.

A sponge filter sits in your tank and is connected to an air line. The air flow pulls water through the sponge and it filters your water.

A sponge insert sits inside a power-filter like an Aqua Clear or a canister filter. A pump sucks water into the filter and pushes it through the sponge before it goes back into the tank.

    I hope that helps.

I should have been more specific about the hang over the back needing the internal sponge. Carol recommended it and I am using it. I just refer to them as filter media. I wasn't clear about it. You answered my question. Thank you very much!
