Please do yourself a favor and stay away from any of the Won Bros. heaters. Out of 9 of them I only have two that are still working. The controllers have gone out on the 7 failed ones. I ended up buying a different controller, cutting the heating element off at the base and rewiring in to a plug. Have had them all for less than a year. I have been using the ViaAqua titanium and stainless steel and so far they are rock steady. BTW, I also got three of the large Visitherm stealths and two shot craps already. HTH

so titanium is the way to go? the only advantage i can see of them over the regular glass one is that they don't shatter, but i've never shattered a heater before, so i don't know if that's a big difference for me or not.

I believe it is not the titanium heating elements themselves that go bad, but the electronics that control it. Any of those Won heaters, if you were to cut the cord to the element and wire in a 3 prong plug and plug it in, would get hot. The element is probably the simplest part of the entire heater. Their 500 watt Ti heater is set up this way. The controller has a receptacle for the element, which plugs in with a 3 prong plug.

Jehmco makes a heater controller that looks good, although I have no experience with them.

Hydor makes some submersible heaters that go to 400 watts now. I have two of them in a 265 gallon tank and they keep the water at 87 no problem. These heaters are actually shorter in length than an Ebo-Jaeger 250 watt model.

I have made the switch over to Jali's and I haven't had a problems with them yet. Now I only have 4 of them but for me they are better than the Won's. I purchased the larger size ones with the separate control and element. I purchase mine at Custom Aquatic because AquaCave does not carry them.

Stay away from Won heaters. I've had bad luck with them I purchased about 10 of these less than a year ago and only 2 are still working. The best heater I've ever used is Ebo-Jager. You can get these cheap at Jemco http://www.jehmco.com/PRODUCTS_/HARD...s/heaters.html
That is what I use in all my tanks. I haven't had one go bad yet.
