    Default Life of Driftwood

Hi all. Do you have to change your driftwood periodically, or can it stay in a tank indefinitely?

It kinda depends on the wood. I have some I've used for 10+ years, some less, that eventually gets soft +/or crumbly. In tanks with a wood eating type plec, bristle nose & clown in my cases, they chew off the softer outer layer but leave wood bits around & quite a lot of fiber poo. Mopani seems harder & longer lasting than most, I haven't tried the branchy manzanita.
