Another great looking crew, so nice and they are really filling out with spots and color. Are old are these guys, guessing about 3.5 in or so.

Pat theres two batches in there mixed.. The youngest ones are 3.5 " total length..measured this one..

the others are 4.5"TL with one being 5" TL. These are meaured values..fish in net. Brian and I have both noted the very slow rate of growth on these spotted. But they are looking good still and Slowly growing so Its good. I really don't care how long a fish takes to grow as long as the end product is good. Im in this for the long haul.

They look great and I'm with you on the slow growers, F1 wilds are slow growers but they are worth the wait, same with these guys.

Very nice Al! Interesting to see the difference in dorsal heights within the group. You did mention 2 different batches. Are they all from the same parents? What strain were the parents Brian raised the fry from?

I'm very happy you rescued them as you know I was getting ready to cull them due to slow growth. It didn't occur to me at the time that the slow growth was genetics, but rather I thought it was due to the water issues I had last year. I think these were born in June and the water disaster was July 16th. I do have some from a later spawn from October and while the growth is still slow, they are really nice. At 7 months the largest one is at around 4".

I'm not a genetics guru, but this confuses me because the female of the pair is over 6" and the male is every bit of 7". I just figured big parents, big fry, lol...

Pat, these are the parents. Ruby Red Spider x Meteor. Just fancy names for refined LSS's

Out of the few I kept, I'm seeing Turq's, Leopards and LSS. LSS x LSS do not breed true. Actually, better pairing would be LSS x Leopard.

I'll see if I can get some decent photo's of the grow outs later today.

I always found that the 8 and 9 stress bar Discus outgrew the 14 stress bar Discus, even from different breeders of LSS.

Cliff thats an interesting observation. I haven't noticed it with blue snakeskins and turqs but LSS are so inbred that maybe its more obvious. I havent bred LSS myself so no experience there...Brian?
