It took Yoda a few days to start eating and now enjoys Fresh shrimp, clams, mussels and crayfish. All frozen of course as I would like him to learn to eat the frozen foods so eventually I can try some tank mates.
As some of you may know I have always been interested in this Giant Freshwater Puffer. Well recently my local wholesaler finally had some available so I took the journey north and purchased the new addition to Chicago Discus. He/She is a 6.5" MBU puffer (named Yoda by my family). He is currently in a 40 breeder in quarantine and will be treated for parasites and worms as a precaution due to his wild background. He will eventually (in a couple of weeks) move into a 300 so he can grow properly. As he matures I will call Beth at glass cages and get him a custom larger tank for him to live in.
Im looking into a web cam so everyone can watch his growth and progress. As is my nature I will be posting videos of Yoda very soon so everyone can take a look at this magnificent creature........Josie

Josie, Whatever you do make sure he/she doesn't get over excited suddenly. Once they puff up they sometimes cannot release the air sacs. I had a puffer for about four years. One of my cats suddenly looked up at the tank and jumped at him. He puffed up and never could release the air sacs and stopped eating and perished. Looking forward to seeing this fish grow. Rufus
Congrats Josie !!! Ive heard so much about puffer's personality, this guy is huge! cant imagine what he must look like puffed up.....but as Rufus says, thats a sign of stress so I could live without it ....but its kinda cool to see it too lol

THE KEY TO SUCCESSFUL FISH KEEPING IS TO NEVER STOP LEARNING..
THE KEY TO FAILURE IS TO THINK YOU KNOW IT ALL...

Very nice Josie! I am privileged to to be able to see a 9 year old Mbu at my local LFS. I have had Fahakas and still have my Hairy puffer and always fight the urge to get an Mbu every time they get one in. I am thinking my Trachy Trachy cat fish would do Ok with an Mbu but you never know.
Keep us updated as it and your tank grow.
