Well we've been trying to have fries for a long time, finally after purchasing a new Blue Snakeskin from Ping at Pingo's Discus I was successful. Only because Ping added a extra fish in my order, it was around Xmas and I guess Ping wanted to clear out an assortment of discus. I order a Blue Snakeskin hoping that the one I ordered would be a male, looking at the two Ping had available I think I picked the better of the two. Well, turns out I was right he was a great looking blue, the extra fish I got for Xmas was a female Tiger Pigeon. Low and behold they ended up spawning in the QT tank, since I wasn't interested in the baby fry they would have I didn't do anything to the water. Well the male must have super genes cause they ended up being wigglers. All I could do was wait and see what they did with them, they ended up eating them I did'nt see who was eating them but that's what happened. This occurred several times each time in regular tap water, and they ate them each time. Well, the female tiger pigeon got a cloudy eye so since they were still in QT I decided to treat her eye with a salt treatment together. I didn't think it would hurt them, well they decided spawn again while I was adding the salt. They were in a 30 gallon tank for QT so I added 6 tablespoons for her treatment. I thought for sure the eggs wouldn't hatch, well I was wrong they hatched. I thought for sure they would eat them, they didn't they moved them. I found them in the sponge filter wiggling up a storm I don't know how all this happened but it has. They are a week old tomorrow, I guess I'm a father in some sense. Enjoy my super duper fries from my Xmas pair a blue male snakeskin, and a tiger pigeon 1week old.......Jim in Ohio
Re: First fries in long, long time..................
It seems like they prefer the bbs but I believe they still eat off the parent, had to take out the mother because she was a pigeon and didn't get dark enough. They aren't interested enough in the parents food like beef heart and your fdbw's yet they still are just picking at them. How can I get them to accept more of the parents food or will they also learn that? I just don't want my dad to get to beat-up by 50+ fries waiting for the next hatch of bbs. Jim in Ohio
Re: First fries in long, long time..................
Jim multiple small feedings through the day is key here for the bbs..they look still small for alot of adult foods... Id let them continue with the dad.. feed often on the bbs . If the male starts getting irritated.. you can pull him then. A coffee grinder works well to pulverize supplimental foods.. just soak about 5-10 minutes and feed sparingly...
